15 trains delayed in Dhaka, thousands stranded
At least 15 trains have been delayed since Titumir College students blocked Mohakhali level crossing, which left thousands faced with uncertainty.
“At least 15 trains, mostly intercity, got delayed till 7:00pm,” a Mohiuddin Arif, divisional railway manager at Bangladesh Railway told The Daily Star.
Of them, two intercity trains got stranded near Tejgaon Station after they left Kamalapur Station for Rajshahi and Noakhali, he said.
Replying to a question, he said they were refunding ticket fares to those who asked for it. “We have informed the law enforcement agencies and higher authorities. But we don’t know when the operations will resume,” he said.
Railway operations between Dhaka and most parts of the country were severed after the students blocked the level crossing around 3:45pm. There are also a large number of trains stuck en-route to Dhaka because of this blockade by Titumir students.
According to railway officials, this recent suspension of operations will once again jeopardise the train schedule which had only been restored to normalcy after a 26-hour strike of train crew last week.
