17 killed, 30 injured in Thailand bus-train collision

At least 17 people were killed and about 30 others injured when a tour bus, on which they were riding, crashed with a cargo train in central Thailand on Sunday morning, a government official said.

The cargo train rammed the tour bus, which had 65 passengers on board and was crossing a rail track in Bang Toey area of the capital district of Chachoengsao province, killing the 17 passengers on the spot, according to chief district officer Prathuang Yukasem.

The injured passengers were rushed to nearby hospitals by rescue workers.

The tour bus, which came from Samut Prakan province and was headed to a temple in downtown Chachoengsao, was immediately overturned due to the collision with the cargo train, which came from Laem Chabang port in Chonburi province and was headed to Lat Krabang area of Bangkok.

The police are yet to investigate and determine the cause of the crash.
