A trawler carrying 24 tonnes of food grains and 14 people onboard capsized in Mehgna River due to strong currents near Molhed area of Chandpur Sadar upazila on Sunday, reports UNB.
The people on board managed to swim ashore, said Officer-in-Charge of Chandpur Naval Police Jahid Hossain.

Trawler’s driver Waliullah said they started from Dewanghat of Puranbazar in the afternoon and was going to Charatrabazar of Shariatpur.

When they reached the confluence of Meghna and Padma rivers, strong currents turned over their trawler. Some engine-run boats rescued them, he said.
