Dhaka Wasa chairman dies of coronavirus infection

Dhaka Wasa Board chairman Professor MA Rashid died of coronavirus infection at Bangladesh Specialised Hospital in the capital on Thursday morning.

Former professor of the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Professor Rashid was 67.

He had been undergoing treatment at the hospital after detection of coronavirus infection in his body, said Dhaka Wasa’s managing director Taksim A Khan.

Taksim A Khan said Professor MA Rashid had been under ventilation support at Bangladesh Specialised Hospital since July 16 after he was diagnosed with Covid-19 in his sample test. His condition got worsened on September 3 last. Then he was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU). His condition had been critical over three to four days.

Doctors said some of his organs were failed due to Covid-19.

Professor MA Rashid had been a teacher of the Mechanical Engineering Department of BUET from 1985 to 2018. In September last year, the government appointed him as Dhaka Wasa’s chairman.
