World Alzheimer’s Day is observed annually on September 21 to create awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. The theme for this year is ‘Let’s talk about dementia’. This disease impairs memory and other functions of the brain, thereby affecting a person mentally. Though no cure for this disease has been discovered yet, medication and certain types of foods can be productive during the treatment process. These foods can be used for lessening the symptoms or reducing further degeneration. By consuming foods that are good for brain health, people can reduce the risk of mental illness such as these and even boost memory power.

Dryfruits such as almonds and walnuts can do wonders for your memory and brainpower. Almonds are rich in Vitamin E is considered as an ideal food for the brain. This dry fruit is often recommended at the onset of diseases such as Alzheimer’s.

Those who consume meat can benefit from fatty fishes such as sardines and salmons. These are rich sources of polyunsaturated fat which are vital for the healthy functioning of the brain.

Turmeric

Small wonder that turmeric (Haldi) is extensively used in most Indian kitchens. This yellow spice is known for its therapeutic properties, and hence it is consumed almost daily in India. Turmeric is rich in curcumin, antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties. No wonder why some refer to it as a divine potion for the brain.
