Nurul Huque Nur, former vice president of Dhaka University Central Students Union (DUCSU), was detained on Monday.
He was detained from a protest at Matshay Bhaban area in Dhaka in the evening, said DMP deputy commissioner for media Walid Hossain.
“Former DUCSU VP Nur and his supporters engaged in a scuffle with duty police and obstruct them performing their duties at Matshay Bhaban area while they brought a rally protesting a rape case was filed against six people, including Nur. At one stage, police detained six people including Nur,” said the official.
Earlier on Sunday night, a student of Dhaka University (DU) has filed a rape case against Nur among six persons. In the case, she mentioned Nur’s name as an aid and abetter of the rapist.
Nur was elected VP in last year’s Ducsu polls, the first in 28 years. It was marred by allegations of irregularities.

All panels, except that of Bangladesh Chhatra League, boycotted the election. The ruling party student front dominated the polls but lost the posts of VP and social service affairs secretary.
