Former UNO Wahida to be released from hospital Thursday

Former Ghoraghat Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Wahida Khanam, who has been undergoing treatment at the National Institute of Neurosciences & Hospital in Dhaka will be released from the hospital on Thursday as her physical condition has improved.
Hospital sources said her physical condition is much better now. She can move alone. There is no risk factor.

Professor Dr Zahed Hossain, head of the Neuro-Trauma Department of the hospital, said, “We’re hopeful of giving her releasing order tomorrow (Thursday). However, she will be referred to the CRP (Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed) at Savar for the next treatment.”

Asked how much UNO Wahida got recovered, he said she could walk without any support.

After midnight on September 2 last, UNO Wahida and her father Omar Ali were seriously injured in an attack by miscreants at her official residence on the Ghoraghat Upazila Parishad premises. The miscreants attacked the UNO and her father with hammers.

Later, the critically injured UNO was airlifted to National Institute of Neurosciences & Hospital in Dhaka where a major operation was conducted by Professor Dr Zahed Hossain, head of the Neuro-Trauma Department, and his team.

Neurosurgeons said there were nine marks of injury on the skull of the UNO. The injuries were caused by hammer and the skulls entered the brain being broken into pieces.
