Nixon Chy secures 8-weeks anticipatory bail

Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury Nixon, lawmaker from Faridpur-4, on Tuesday secured eight weeks anticipatory bail in a case filed by the Election Commission.

A High Court bench of Justice Sheikh Md Jakir Hossain and Justice KM Jahid Sarwar Kajol passed the order after hearing on the case.

Lawyer Shahdin Malik stood in the dock on behalf of Mujibur Rahman.

On Sunday, Nixon sought anticipatory bail from the HC in the case filed for violating the electoral code of conduct during the local polls.

Nawabul Islam, a senior election official, filed the case against Mujibur Rahman with Charbhadrasan Police Station on October 15.

Earlier, Faridpur DC Atul Sarkar sent a letter to the Cabinet Division making allegations of serious misconduct against him and other local administration officials by Nixon Chowdhury MP.

In his complaint, the DC stated that the lawmaker threatened him over the arrest of his supporters during the Charbhadrasan Upazila Parishad by-election.

Meanwhile, Nixon Chowdhury MP, in a press conference on October 13, denied the allegations against him saying the audio clip where he is heard threatening the Faridpur DC over the arrest of his supporters during the Charbhadrasan Upazila Parishad by-polls was ‘super edited.’
