‘Golden Monir’ put on 18-day remand

Two courts in Dhaka on Sunday placed businessman Monir Hossain alias ‘Golden Monir’ on an 18-day remand in three cases filed with Badda Police Station.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Abu Bakr Siddique granted the law enforcers 14 days to interrogate Monir in two cases filed under Arms and Special Powers Acts.

On the other hand, Metropolitan Magistrate placed him a four-day remand in a case filed under Narcotics Control Act.

Earlier in the day, RAB lodged  the cases against Monir under the narcotics, arms and Special Powers Acts.

Producing Monir before the court, Badda police inspector (operation) Yasin Gazi and SI Jane Alam Dulal sought 21 days’ remand for Monir to interrogate him in three cases.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) detained Monir from his Badda residence in Dhaka during an overnight drive conducted from Friday night to Saturday morning.

They seized eight kilograms of gold ornaments, cash Tk 1 crore, a foreign gun, some bullets, foreign currencies of 10 countries worth around Tk 9 lakh, and drugs during the raid.

Monir Hossain, who started career as a salesman at a cloth store in the capital’s Gausia Market in the 1990s, amassed the wealth of over Tk 1,050 crore within 30 years.
