Vijay’s Master tops ‘2020 most tweeted about movies’ list

Thalapathy Vijay is one of the most bankable stars in the Tamil film industry, not just at the box-office but also across social media platforms. Ahead of Master‘s release, the hashtag ‘Master Tops Twitter 2020’ began trending on the microblogging site.

Other Tamil films in the list include Valimai, Soorarai Pottru and Darbar. Valimai is the upcoming Ajith Kumar film directed by H Vinoth while the Suriya-starrer Soorarai Pottru was released last month on popular OTT platform. Superstar Rajinikanth’s Darbar was released across theatres in January 2020.

This year’s list of most tweet films also includes films from other languages including Vakeel Saab (Telugu), Sarkaru Vaari Patta (Telugu), RRR (Telugu), Pushpa (Telugu), Sarileru Neekevvaru (Telugu) and KGF Chapter 2 (Kannada) 

The Lokesh Kanagaraj directorial, Master has been declared as the most tweeted film by Twitter in 2020. While the fans have been celebrating the massive achievement of their star’s film, we have compiled three other films that had achieved a similar annual Twitter record in Thalpathy Vijay’s career.

Mersal (2017)

Mersal was the second film that brought the blockbuster combination Atlee and Vijay under Thenandal Studios. It was the film in which, Illayathalapathy Vijay transformed into Thalapathy Vijay. The film had A.R. Rahman’s music.

Mersal grabbed the third spot in Twitter’s 2017 annual record. The film also starred Kajal Agarwal, Samantha Akkineni, Nithya Menon, Yogi Babu and SJ Suryah.  The film got into several controversies as one of the dialogues spoken by Vijay strongly criticized the GST revision brought by the ruling central government.
