Farida Yasmin, Ilyas Khan elected president, general secy of Press Club

Farida Yasmin was elected president and Ilyas Khan general secretary of Jatiya Press Club on Thursday.
The result of the election was known at night following the voting that was held from 9.00am to 5.00pm without any-break.
Farida Yasmin bagged 581 votes, while her rival Kamal Uddin Sabuj secured 395 votes for the post of president. Besides, Ilyas Khan got 566 votes for the post of general secretary, while his rival Omar Faruque bagged 393 votes.
Other office bearers elected are senior vice president Hasan Hafiz, vice president Rezwanul Huque Raja, joint general secretary Mainul Alam, treasurer Shahed Chowdhury, members Ayub Bhuyian, Zahiduzzaman Faruque, Bhanu Ranjan Chakrabarty, Rahman Mustafiz, Rezanur Rahman, Shahnaz Siddiqui Shoma, Syed Abdal Ahmed, Kazi Raunak Hossain, Bakhtiar Rana and Shahnaz Begum Poly.
Two panels led by Farida Yasmin-Omar Faruque Parishad and Sabuj-Ilyas Parishad contested in the election for the 2021-22 tenure. A total of 34 candidates of these two panels took part in the election for 17 posts of the managing committee.
Besides, seven more candidates outside the panels contested for several posts.
