James Swapan Peris inaugurated as SBMUK’s new Secretary
Secular Bangladesh Movement UK (SBMUK) held a meeting on 20th July in Hainault to bid farewell to Jasmine Chowdhury the outgoing Secretary and to welcome the new Secretary James Swapan Peris.
Jasmin Chowdhury was acknowledged for her hard work and commitment during her tenure. She now sits in the Advisory group. Other who attended the event were President Pushpita Gupta, Joint Secretary Atish Saha, Sahittyo Paul, Mohua Chowdhury, Biswajit Baidya and Salina Paul.
The Secular Bangladesh Movement UK was formed to highlight religious persecution in Bangladesh and to campaign to prevent further persecutions. SBMUK has regularly visited Bangladesh to assist victims, provide financial support, follow up on action and to help them get justice by bringing perpetrators to justice. SBMUK are also campaigning to enact specific laws for the protection of minorities, and for the protection of places of worship. In addition, SBMUK has recommended of forming a minority’s rights commission to safeguard minorities’ rights.
