A writ has been filed seeking allotment of a separate compartment for woman in each passenger train.

Lawyer Mamtaz Parvin filed the writ with the High Court on Wednesday.

Md Ajmal Hossain, counsel of the petitioner, confirmed the matter on Thursday.

He said, the writ has been filed challenging inaction of the authorities concerned in implementing sections 64 and 119 of the Railways Act.

In the writ, secretaries of the Railways and Home Affairs, and director general and the inspector of the railways have been made respondents.

As per section 64 of the Railways Act, 1890, each train should have a separate compartment for women. And such compartment of a train that runs for a distance exceeding 50 miles should be provided with a closet.

As per section 119, if a male person enters the place without lawful excuse he shall be punished.

The writ was filed due to non-implementation of the law, said lawyer Ajmal Hossain.
