US climate envoy John Kerry held telephone talks with Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen on Tuesday night.
During their half-hour long talks, they discussed about the climate change and its impact on Bangladesh.
A Foreign Ministry official told the Daily Observer Online that Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen and US Climate Envoy John Kerry discussed how Bangladesh and the United States could work together on the issue of global climate change and its impact.
Foreign Minister Dr Momen also invited John Kerry, who was also the former US Secretary of State, to visit Dhaka.
After taking over power, US President Joe Biden appointed John Kerry as the Special Presidential Envoy for Climate. Biden announced that Kerry will serve as the U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Climate in his administration.
On the other hand, the issue of climate change is very important for Bangladesh as the country has seriously been affected by the global climate change.
Earlier, taking part in a webinar on Bangladesh-US relations in Dhaka, Foreign Minister Dr Momen said Bangladesh is one of worst affected countries in the world due to the global climate change.
“It’s a good sign that President Joe Biden has signed an executive order to return to the Paris Agreement on climate change. I firmly believe that Bangladesh will be benefited for the United States’ contributions to implement the Paris Agreement,” he said.
It may be recalled that John Kerry visited Bangladesh in 2016.
