Election Commissioner Kabita Khanam on Thursday termed the complaints against the Election Commissioners as an attempt to make the Election Commission controversial by 42 eminent citizens of the country.
“Instead of the Election Commissioners, some eminent citizens have made various allegations targeting the EC to make it controversial. Those who work as ECs now have worked more than 30 years. They maintained utmost transparency in their careers, and they are still doing so,” she told journalists at Nirbachan Bhaban in the city’s Agargaon area.
Forty-two citizens of the country recently wrote two letters to the President demanding an investigation into the allegations o irregularities and serious misconduct against the election commissioners by forming a Supreme Judicial Council.
Kabita Khanam further said those who have been transparent all their lives must not dispute themselves with responsibility for only five years.
“As the complaint has been sent to the President, I have nothing to say about it. Allowances have been given since the training started. It is approved by the Commission,” she said.
About local polls, the Election Commissioner said, “There has been some violence in the recently concluded local government elections. Law enforcement agencies were on alert to contain it. However, the violence was less than before.”
