A Dhaka court on Tuesday placed another accused in the case lodged over rape and murder of a student of University of
Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB), on one-day remand.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Nivana Khayer passed the order.
The man remanded is victim’s friend Shafayat Jamil, 22.
Earlier on February 4, Jamil surrendered to the court and submitted an affidavit stating his involvement in the case.
Police produced him before the court seeking a seven-day remand for him.
But, the court had ordered to send him to jail scrapping his bail plea.
The court on January 31, placed victim’s friends and accused Mortuza Rayhan Chowdhury and Nuhad Alam Tafsir on a five-day remand each after the victim’s father filed the case with Mohammadpur Police Station against four people including Neha, Mortuza and Tasfir earlier on that day.
According to the case, the young woman and Raihan, the main accused, went to the house of Arafat from Mirpur at 4pm on January 28. The trio, later, went to a restaurant in city’s Uttara area where their another two friends were waiting. They drank alcohol at the restaurant.
Rayhan and one of his friend took the young woman to one of her friend’s house in Mohammadia Homes Limited in Mohammadpur as she fell sick and raped her there.
When the victim’s physical condition deteriorated, the duo first took her to Dhanmondi Ibn Sina Hospital. As the hospital refused to handle the patient, she was then taken to Anwer Khan Modern Hospital where the victim succumbed to her injuries on Sunday morning.
