Sushant Singh Rajput’s film Chhichhore declared ‘Best Hindi Film’ at 67th National Film Awards

The 67th National Film Awards have been announced in New Delhi on Monday, March 22. The ceremony was initially slated to be held in May last year, but got delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic. The National Film Awards are given out by the Directorate of Film Festivals, under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
This year there were 461 films in the Feature Film category and 22 films in the Non-Feature Film category. Noted celebrities like Kangana Ranaut, Manoj Bajpayee, Vijay Sethupathi, Dhanush and Srijit Mukerji won big at the 67th National Film Awards. While Kangana won Best Actress for Panga and Manikarnika, Manoj Bajpayee shared the Best Actor award with Dhanush for Bhonsle and Asuran respectively. Vijay Sethuopathi took home the Best Supporting Actor for Super Deluxe, while Srijit Mukerji’s Gumnaami won for Adapted Screenplay.
Amidst all this, late actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s Chhichhore won Best Hindi Film as well. The 2019 coming of age comedy drama had Sushant Singh Rajpur in the lead, essaying a divorced middle-aged man Anirudh, living with his teenage son Raghav, who is an aspiring engineer. However, fuelled by fears that he will not be able to crack the IIT JEE Advacned, Raghav deliberately slips off the balcony in an attempt to commit suicide. The teenager survives, albeit in a fatal state and Anirudh has to go on a journey of soul searching to help his son survive.
The film had Shraddha Kapoor, Varun Sharma, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Naveen Polishetty and Tushar Pandey in lead roles apart from Sushant Singh Rajput.
The Nitesh Tiwari directorial was Sushant’s last film before he was found dead in his home in Bandra area, Mumbai on June 14 2020.
