A 50-member convening committee has also been formed with Major General (Retd) AMSA Amin as convener of the new political party.
Gonoshasthaya Kendra founder Dr Zafarullah Chowdhury and Dhaka University’s law department professor Asif Nazrul were present as special guests.
Speaking at the press conference, AMSA Amin said, “There is no unity in the country like that of the 1960s. The nation is divided now. The post-independence political leaders have failed to uphold the patriotism, honesty and self-sacrifices of the valiant freedom fighters and martyred. Much economic development has taken place in the country, but common people have remained deprived of its benefits. Rich have become richer, while poor have become poorer. And, middle-class has been going through great crisis.”
He said theft, bribe, corruption, looting, drug, rape and murder have become pandemic in the country. Weakness of law and order, and injustice have destroyed the weaving of the society. Judiciary has been facing some 30-35 lakh case backlog. Anarchy has been prevailing at all offices, education, health, public services, hospitals, banks, traffic, police and administration.
