State Minister for Relief’s suspended PA arrested

Suspended personal assistant (PA) of the state minister for Disaster Management and Relief Shahidur Rahman Sujon, 38, has been arrested by police.

He was arrested from Malancha Residential Area at Bonpukur under Savar Pourasava on Saturday afternoon at the directive of Police Headquarters on charge of assaulting an employee of Foodpanda.

Dhaka District Additional Police Super (Crime) Abdullahil Kafi confirmed about the arrest of Sujon.

Sujon physically assaulted Abdul Latif, a rider of Foodpanda, an online food and grocery delivery platform, in broad-daylight at about 5:00pm on Wednesday. A person recorded the video of assault and released on the social media which later became viral. However, the person subsequently removed the video from the social media as Sujon is ‘very powerful’ in the area.

It is learnt that Shahidur Rahman Sujon ordered for ‘halim’ on Foodpanda. As the rider Abdul Latif who was on fasting declined to go to Sujon’s flat at the third floor with the ‘halim’ keeping his bicycle on the ground floor, he (Sujon) came down and mercilessly beat the rider.

Md Sohel Rana, AIG of the Public Relations Department at the Police Headquarters, said a person sent a video to the Media and Public Relations Wing’s official Facebook page’s inbox.

The video shows that a person physically assaulting a delivery man of Foodpanda at Bonpukur area in Savar. Watching the video, the Media and Public Relations Wing of the Police Headquarters directed Savar Police Station’s officer-in-charge AFM Sayed to take instant step to arrest the person.

The Savar Police Station OC took necessary steps immediately.

Later, Foodpanda rider Abdul Latif filed a case with Savar Police Station on Saturday and police arrested Sujon from his flat.

Shahidur Rahman Sujon, PO of State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Dr Enamur Rahman MP, was formally suspended on charges of his alleged involvement in corruption and irregularities on March 31 last. Before it, he was kept abstained from all duties and responsibilities for five months.
