Former West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya has been infected with the Covid-19. His wife Mira Bhattacharya has also been diagnosed with the virus, reports Anandabazar Patrika.

According to Indian newspaper Anandabazar on Wednesday, Buddhadeb’s wife was admitted to a private hospital in South Kolkata on Tuesday night after having breathing difficulties. Besides, Buddhadeb is taking treatment at home.

According to Indian media sources, the level of oxygen in Buddhadeb’s body is still not alarming. However, since he is a chronic COPD patient, the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPM) leaders do not want to treat him at home. However, considering the situation, it will be decided to take him to the hospital, the CPM leaders said.

For a long time, Buddhadeb and his wife did not go out of the house. This year, they did not even cast vote. The sample test for the Covid-19 was done a few days ago due to their physical problems. The report came positive on Tuesday morning.

Buddhadeb Bhattacharya, a leader of the Communist Party of India and currently a member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) was the former Chief Minister of West Bengal. He was born in 1944 in North Kolkata.
