SI Akram murder: Babul Akhter’s alleged involvement being probed

Jhenidah Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has launched an investigation into the allegation of former police super Babul Akhter’s involvement in police sub-inspector Akram murder.

Following the arrest of Babul Akhter in his wife sensational Mahmuda Khanam Mitu murder, SI Akram’s family have requested the PBI to investigate the allegation.

Akram’s family have alleged that former SP Babul Akhter had a love affair with Akram’s wife Bohnni. “Because of Babul and Bohnni had planned to kill Akram,” they alleged.

PBI’s investigation officer sub-inspector Towhidur Rahman said SI Akram’s family have recently submitted an application to the Jhenidah office of PBI requesting to re-investigate the SI Akram murder case. Then the PBI has officially launched an investigation.

PBI personnel have already visited the spot where injured SI Akram fell on the ground along with his motorcycle at Barada under Shoilakupa upazila of Jhenidah-Kushtia highway.

PBI also questioned 13 persons who had rushed injured Akram to hospital and brought his motorcycle to his house.

Besides, Akram’s wife Banani Binte Bashir alias Bohnni and former OC of Shoilakupa police station Hashem Khan would also be questioned, said IO Towhidur Rahman.

It is learnt from the complaint filed by the family that SI Akram was returning to Jhenidah through Jamuna Bridge on December 28, 2014 at the advice of his wife. At night, he was found lying injured on the ground at Barada under Shoilakupa upazila of Jhenidah-Kushtia highway. There were marks of injury on his head.

Police had said it was “just a road accident.”

Critically injured Akram died while underwent treatment at the intensive care unit (ICU) of Dhaka Medical College Hospital on January 13, 2015.

Later, Akram’s wife submitted a prayer to the hospital authorities to return her husband’s dead body without any postmortem. Akram’s body was buried at their family graveyard in Jhenidah town.

Akram was the son of Abul Hossain Master of Hamdaha Purbopara in Jhenidah town.
