A court in Cox’s Bazar has set June 27 for the hearing of suspended former Teknaf police station officer-in-charge Pradeep Kumar Das’ and ASI Nanda Dulal Rakhshit’s bail in Major (Retd) Sinha Md Rashed Khan’s murder case.

Judge Mohammad Ismail of Cox’s Bazar District and Sessions Judge Court, fixed the date on Sunday afternoon.

Earlier on June 9 last, bail petitions were submitted to the court on behalf of the two accused. However, instead of holding the hearing, the court set June 27 for hearing the petitions for bail.

Public Prosecutor of Cox’s Bazar district court Advocate Faridul Alam said Pradeep’s lawyer pleaded for his bail and the date for the hearing was decided by Judge Mohammad Ismail.

A panel of lawyers on behalf of the defendant led by Advocate Rana Dasgupta said, “We pleaded to the court to grant bail to OC Pradeep for the sake of ensuring justice in the case. But, the court didn’t hold bail hearing for coronavirus. We will place our arguments in court during the hearing of the bail pleas on June 27 next. We expect to receive justice.”

Pradeep requested for bail four days after he was transferred from Chattogram jail to Cox’s Bazar jail on June 10.

He stayed in Chattogram jail for seven months.

Sinha was killed in police firing at Shamlapur police check post on the Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf Marine Drive under Baharchhara union in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar district at night on July 31, 2020 over searching his car.

After being informed, the then Teknaf OC Pradeep turned up to the scene and delayed taking the bullet-hit Sinha to hospital.

Later on August 5, Sinha’s sister Sharmin Shahriar Ferdous filed a murder case against nine people, including Pradeep. Later, the court ordered RAB to investigate the case.
