Army, BGB to be deployed to enforce strict lockdown

State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain on Friday night said the Army will be called in to assist the members of police and Border Guard Bangladesh to implement the seven-day strict lockdown announced by the government.
The government has announced a nationwide strict lockdown for seven days from Monday morning to check the spread of novel Coronavirus.
The state minister said, “The country will be under a one-week strict lockdown from June 28. Even then we would increase the lockdown period if necessary. It will be quite strict so that everyone adheres strictly. That is why there will be police, BGB, as well as Army.”
“No one will be able to come out of the house without an urgent need. Details will be announced in the notification on Saturday,” he added.
Bangladesh today reported 108 deaths in past 24 hours, the second highest single-day toll since the pandemic’s outbreak.
The official tally showed the virus killed 13,976 people and infected 878,804 so far.
Bangladesh is experiencing an increase in the Covid-19 infection rate, with the latest report of the World Health Organization (WHO) noting that out of the country’s 64 administrative districts 43 were at “very high risk” while 15 others, including Dhaka, were at “high risk”.
