Bangladesh sees highest 11,525 Covid infections, 163 deaths

With 11,525 fresh Covid-19 cases, Bangladesh has seen the biggest-ever daily surge, since the pandemic began, taking the tally to 9,66,406.
The daily health update of the Directorate General of Health Services came up with the statistics on Tuesday.
“The country recorded 163 novel coronavirus (COVID-19) deaths in the past 24 hours, the second highest number in a single day,” DGHS said.
The country reported 31.46 percent COVID-19 positive cases, the highest in a day as 36,631 samples were tested in the past 24 hours while it registered 9,964 positive cases on July 5 (yesterday), the second single-day highest.
The official tally showed the virus killed 15,392 people, the statement added.
The recovery count rose to 8,44,515 after another 5,433 patients were discharged from the hospitals during the past one day.
The DGHS statistics showed of the people infected from the beginning 87.39 percent recovered, while 1.59 percent died.
Both infections and fatalities of coronavirus continued to rise sharply in the past several days while the government has extended the ongoing lockdown till midnight of July 14.
Earlier, the government decided to impose a nationwide seven-day lockdown till July 7 to contain transmission of the deadly virus.
