Helena Jahangir, who has recently been relieved of Awami League Women Affairs sub-committee, has claimed herself innocent at the court on Friday evening.

She also claimed herself as the “government and Awami League’s own person.”

At about 7:50pm on Friday, she was produced before the Dhaka metropolitan magistrate’s court. Then police pleaded to the court to place her on a five-day remand in a case filed under Digital Security Act with Gulshan Police Station.

During the hearing on the remand, metropolitan magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury asked her: “Do you have anything else to say?”

In reply, Helena Jahangir told the court: “I’m the government’s own person. I’m Awami League’s person. I visited 25 countries with the Prime Minister. I didn’t commit any crime. There is no proof about it.”

She further said she was not expelled. “I’m not expelled. I’m still with the party.”

Earlier in the afternoon, a case was filed against her under the Digital Security Act with Gulshan Police Station after she was handed over by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at about 5:45pm.

Helena Jahangir was arrested by RAB at about 12:15am on Friday after four hours of raid into her Gulshan residence by RAB. Then she was taken to the RAB Headquarters at Uttara in Dhaka for questioning.

During the raid, RAB seized huge quantity of imported liquor, casino game playing equipment, walkie-talkie, and knives from Helena Jahangir’s residence.

At a press conference held at RAB Headquarters on Friday, Khondker Al Moyeen, Director of the Legal and Mass Media Department of RAB, said several cases would be filed against Helena Jahangir.
