Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud on Sunday said the killers assassinated Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, most of his family members and relatives as they were even afraid of the shadow of Bangabandhu.
“The kingpins of those killers are also afraid of Bangabandhu’s shadow. For this, they deny Bangabandhu and try to repudiate him (Bangabandhu) still now,” he said, addressing a discussion at Tathya Bhaban in city’s Kakrail area.
Department of Films and Publications (DFP), Mass Communication Department (MCD) and Film Censor Board jointly organised the meeting marking the 91st birth anniversary of Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib.
State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr Murad Hasan and Secretary of the ministry Md Mokbul Hossain addressed the meeting as special guests with MCD director general Bidhan Chandra Karmakar in the chair.
Hasan, also Awami League joint general secretary, said the killers even killed Bangabandhu’s younger son Sheikh Russel. “There are questions before the nation that why they (killers) killed Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib? Why they killed Sheikh Russel? In fact, they were afraid of the shadow of Bangabandhu too,” he added.
He said the collaborators of the killers are active till now. But, the people, who are trying to deny Bangabandhu continuously and tried to make the villain a hero, they are gradually disappearing from the pages of history, he said adding that the people know the real history.
The minister said Bangamata was a lifelong companion of Bangabandhu as shadow, even in death. “She (Bangamata) told the killers ‘You killed him (Bangabandhu), so kill me too’ . . . And she embraced death”, said Hasan.
He said Bangamata always inspired Bangabandhu standing beside him as the Father of the Nation had sacrificed his life for the struggle of the country’s independence and welfare of the people.
After the meeting, the minister replied queries of newsmen over BNP’s comments on the COVID 19 vaccine issue.
He said BNP has lost its sense as the government has made arrangements to vaccinate crores of people of the country.
Hasan said BNP has spread confusion among the countrymen when the government has taken steps to bring the vaccine of AstraZeneca of Oxford produced by Serum Institute in India. Even, they (BNP) said that it (vaccine) will be harmful to health, he added.
But later, he said, they (BNP) took the vaccine openly and secretly. “Meanwhile, BNP didn’t hesitate to criticize the delay in bringing vaccines due to the deteriorating situation in India. And now, they (BNP) have lost their sense as the government has taken steps to vaccinate crores of people,” said Hasan.
In the meeting, Murad paid rich tribute to Bangamata and said Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib was not only Bangabandhu’s wife, she was also the closest wise colleague and greatest inspiration.
