Sara Ali Khan comes from one the strongest film families in the fraternity. Granddaughter of the legendary actress Sharmila Tagore, she is the daughter of Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh. However, Sara was 9-year-old when her parents parted ways. Now, in a recent interview, Sara has opened up about her parents’ divorce.
For the unversed, Saif and Amrita married in 1991 and welcomed daughter Sara Ali Khan, and a son Ibrahim Ali Khan into their lives. However, in 2004, Saif Ali Khan and Amrita separated and a decade later, Saif married Kareena Kapoor Khan, with whom he has two sons, Taimur and Jehangir.
Now in an interaction with Bazaar India, Sara has said that following her parents’ divorce she saw her mom, who she did not think had laughed in 10 years, become suddenly happy. Sara said, “I’ve always had the tendency to mature a bit faster than others my age. And even at the age of 9, I think I had the maturity to see that these two people living together in our home were not happy.”
She further said, “And suddenly, they were much happier living in two new homes. For instance, my mom, who I don’t think had laughed in 10 years, was suddenly happy, beautiful, and excited, like she deserves to be. Why would I be unhappy if I have two happy parents in two happy homes?”
She went on to add that the separation was not difficult for her parents at all, stating, “They’re both infinitely happier and in a much more positive space today. I see my mom laughing and joking and being silly, which is something I have missed for so many years. It’s a joyful relief to see her like this again.”
On the work front, Sara will next be seen in Atrangi Re alongside Dhanush and Akshay Kumar.
