BNP will observer an eight-hour mass hunger strike across the country, including Dhaka, for Saturday to press home its demand for sending critically sick Khaleda Zia abroad for advanced treatment.
The party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced the programme at an urgently convened press conference at the party chairperson’s Gulshan office in Dhaka on Thursday.
As part of their countrywide programme, the party will observe mass-hunger strike in front of their Nayapaltan central office from 9.00 am.
About the programme, Fakhrul said they tried to hold the programme in any other venue, but they did not get permission. The programme will be observed in all other metropolitan cities and district towns from 9:00am to 4:00pm.
It may be mentioned that BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia was re-admitted to Evercare Hospital in the capital on November 13 after her physical condition seriously deteriorated. Since then she has been undergoing treatment at the Critical Care Unit (CCU) of the hospital under the supervision of a medical board led by cardiologist Professor Dr Shahabuddin Talukder.
The 76-year-old former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia has long been suffering from arthritis, diabetes, kidney ailments, lungs and eye problems.
