Deepika Padukone was so sure about starting a career in showbiz that she borrowed Rs 10,000 from her parents just so she could put together a portfolio. Promising them to give it back once she’d start earning, Deepika soon landed on her feet without a doubt. Before her blockbuster break in 2007, the diva had already completed her first project the previous year for a Kannada film, in which she played the love interest of Sandalwood star Upendra Rao.
Since then, Deepika’s journey of 15 years has only made her audience evolve who see her as more than just an eye-candy leggy lass on the big screen. With films like Piku, Aarakshan, Cocktail, Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela, Tamasha, Bajirao Mastani, Padmaavat and Chhapaak, the 36-year-old actress has built a sparkling resume of thought-provoking and fun watches. Taking a much-deserved break in 2018 and 2019, Deepika recuperated from years of work and mental pressure and is now back with a revamped outlook towards her career.
Truly her upcoming filmography promises a diverse structure of movies that are only giving her audience cumulative excitement to see what she brings to the table this time. With so many announcements made, Deepika may have emerged to be one of the most bankable stars of 2022.
While the actress is gearing up for Dharma Productions-backed Gehraiyaan, the film is not going to release in theatres but on Amazon Prime Video, which reaches nations at a stretch. It will give her fans an opportunity to embrace a side that the audience has been longing to see since Tamasha (2015). Then, she will be back with her debut co-star Shah Rukh Khan for Pathan, which is already a highly anticipated film. Not to mention that the movie is King Khan’s comeback from his hiatus since 2018.
She later has Siddharth Anand’s Fighter with Hrithik Roshan, which is going to be yet another action film. Don’t forget War, was one of the highest-grossing films of 2019. Later, she also has an epic drama Mahabharata and then a Nag Ashwin film with Prabhas, tentatively titled Project K – the pan-India film, bringing Deepika back to South cinema.
In the meantime, another actress that has been receiving almost the same amount of spotlight in the past decade is Alia Bhatt. Though after Student Of The Year, the audience thought of her as just another star kid born with a silver spoon and launched by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, Alia soon changed opinions with films like Highway, Kapoor & Sons, Udta Punjab, Dear Zindagi and Raazi. In fact, Alia’s charm among the audience catapulted to such a degree that she hardly experienced a major flop in her career till now.
Over the years, Alia has sprouted to become a serious performer from the blossoming, bubbly and chirpy Shanaya that she was back in 2012. With her impressive line-up for 2022, it seems the next celeb to reckon a highly successful year at the box office is Alia. Baahubali fame SS Rajamouli’s RRR with Jr NTR, Ram Charan and Ajay Devgn, Alia is set to take the nation by storm with her alleged 20-minute role and later, shouldering Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi.
To add more to her features, Alia’s looking forward to another Karan Johar-directorial Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahaani with Ranveer Singh, her Gully Boy co-star and then her own production Darlings, in which she is performing with veteran Shefali Shah and show-stealer Vijay Verma.
With so many major projects in the pipeline, Deepika and Alia are not taking Hindi cinema but south cinema by storm too.
