The Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League, a 50-over domestic cricket event, is all set to begin on Tuesday.
In this year’s league, a total of 11 Dhaka-based clubs are participating. Prime Doleshwar, a regular participant of the league, is not going to play this year. Nizamuddin Chowdhury, the CEO of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), has said that the club did not mention any specific reason behind their decision to pull out from the league.
The first few rounds of the Dhaka League will miss the services of the national team players who are busy touring South Africa, UNB reports.
“We have a strong team, and our main goal is to qualify to the Super League phase,” Mohammad Ashraful, the captain of Brothers Union told the reporters on Monday. “We haven’t qualified to the Super League for a long time.”
Mohammedan Sporting Club captain Shuvagata Hom said they also have a good team that can win the title. “We will miss the national team players in the first few rounds which is very unfortunate. Still, we have a good set up and we are up to play well,” he said.
Akbar Ali, the U-19 World Cup-winning captain of Bangladesh, will lead Gazi Group Cricketers in this year’s Dhaka League.
“It’s a long event. So we are looking forward to making a good start. For now, the fixture of the first two rounds has been finalized. We would like to do well in these two matches first,” Akbar said.
Walton, the largest electronics goods manufacturer in Bangladesh, is the sponsor of the Dhaka League. This is the 10th time they are patronizing the Dhaka League cricket.
A trophy unveiling ceremony took place on March 14 at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. All the captains of the participating teams were present at the ceremony.
