President Hamid congratulates France’s Macron on re-election

President M Abdul Hamid on Wednesday congratulated his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron on his re-election.

“Your re-election testifies the trust and confidence of the French people that have reposed on your leadership and your all-inclusive projects and commitments for their better future,” the President said in a statement issued this afternoon.

The head of the state said Bangladesh and France enjoy excellent bilateral ties which are rooted in shared values of democracy, equality and fraternity.

Gratefully recalling the moral and material support of the French people during the 1971 War of Liberation, President Hamid said, “Since our independence, these relations have grown over the years and expanded in many areas of cooperation through meaningful engagements.”

“These would further continue during your upcoming term in the office”, the President hoped.

Emmanuel Macron comfortably defeated far-right rival Marine Le Pen this week gaining 57.4% of the vote and securing his second term as the French president, BSS reports.
