Int’l community wishes to see me in leadership again: PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said almost all the heads of state and international agency members, who joined the 73rd Session of the UN General Assembly, have expressed optimism that she will form the government again.

She said: “Almost all the participants, who met me during the UNGA, have wished me best of luck and expressed hope that they will see me in the power again.”

“They also hoped that they will meet me in the next session of the UNGA,” she added.

The PM made the remarks while replying to a query during the ongoing press briefing today.

Asked whether she got any suggestion or recommendation over the upcoming national elections from the authorities of the United Nations following the recent visit of BNP leaders, she said: “No, none placed any suggestion or recommendation regarding the upcoming polls. Rather, they wish me good luck.”

Regarding the situation of holding free and fair elections, the PM further said: “I think that the current situation in the country is very good to hold a parliamentary poll. We are able to arrange it in a free and fair manner.”

The global leaders have also expressed optimism that the upcoming national elections in Bangladesh will be free, fair and participatory and the trend of democracy and development will continue in the country, she added.

The prime minister further said the heads of state and international agencies have highly appreciated the unprecedented progress that has been made in Bangladesh’s economy during Awami League’s regime.
