On June 25, 1983, the Indian Team led by Kapil Dev created history by winning the Cricket World Cup. India beat two-time champions West Indies in the tournament’s finale to lift the coveted cup. The events of that fateful day have since then been made into a film by Kabir Khan where Ranveer Singh essayed the role of Kapil Dev.
Yesterday, iconic cricketer Sachin Tendulkar took to Twitter to share two images from that day – One of Kapil Dev lifting the Prudential Cup as it was known back then, and the other of a wiry haired teen rejoicing at the country’s victory – taken from the movie.

Sachin captioned the share, “Some moments in life inspire you & make you dream. On this day in 1983, we won the World Cup 🏆 for the first time. I knew right then, that’s what I wanted to do too!”
Earlier today, Ranveer Singh, who helped bring the incident on to the silver screen reacted to the post, writing, “One of the most special moments in the movie! Iconic! love you” The actor was referring to the still from the film. The film shows a little boy enjoying Team India’s victory in the final of the World Cup. That curly little boy is no one but Sachin.
The 83 win had a deep impact on Sachin’s career and it was after watching Kapil Dev pose with the Cup that he told his elder brother Ajit that he too wanted to become a cricketer.
