Veteran actor Sharmili Ahmed buried at Banani Graveyard

Prominent film and television actor Sharmili Ahmed was buried at Banani Graveyard in the capital after Asr prayer on Friday (July 8).
She was buried after her second namaj-e-janaza.
Earlier, the first namaj-e-janaza of Sharmili Ahmed was held at Sector 11 Mosque at Uttara after Jumma prayer.
Sharmili breathed her last breath at about 10:00am on Friday at the city’s Ever Care Hospital.
Ahsan Habib Nasim, president of the Actors’ Equity Bangladesh, confirmed the news of her death.
He said, “Sharmili Ahmed had been suffering from cancer. She died this morning while undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in the capital.”
He further said her body will be brought to Uttara’s house at noon and will be buried at the same area at the end of janaja.
Sharmili Ahmed’s real name was Mazeda Mallick. She was born on May 8 in 1947 in Rajshahi. She was an artist enlisted with the Rajshahi Radio. Her first film “Thikana,” an Urdu language film, was released in the 1960s.
She also acted as an lead actor in her husband Rupokar (Rakib Uddin Ahmed)’s film ‘Polatok.’ After the country’s independence, she acted in “Rupali Saikote,” “Ayna-o-Oboshaista,” “Dohon” etc.
The legendary actor started acting on stage at the age of 4. However, she began her career in radio in 1962, followed by films in 1964 and television in 1968. She appeared in ‘Dompoti’ the first drama series in Bangladesh’s television history.
