The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has set up a central control room to monitor and supervise removal of sacrificial animal waste.
DNCC mayor Md Atiqul Islam stated it to journalists at a press briefing after visiting Aftabnagar Cattle Market in the capital on Saturday afternoon. He also gave three phone numbers of the control room. These are 16106, 02-555052084, 0960-2222333.
“Steps will be taken instantly if the city dwellers inform the DNCC central room about the removal of animal waste,” he said.
The DNCC mayor said removal of huge volume of waste during the Eid-ul-Azha is a challenging task for them. “We have taken preparation to remove sacrificial animal wastes within 12 hours. We have 10,000 workers, 600 vehicles, degradable polythene bags, adequate amount of bleaching powder and Savlon. The sacrificial animal waste will be removed within the designated time-frame in cooperation of all,” he said.
Md Atiqul Islam said a large number of buyers and sellers have been found at 10 cattle markets under the DNCC. “We have taken all kinds of preparations for proper management of the cattle markets.”
Urging all to enter the cattle markets by wearing masks and follow health guidelines, he said everyone would have to wear mask compulsorily. A total of 1,000 volunteers at the DNCC cattle markets have been distributing health protection goods.
The mayor said digital payment booths have been set up at six cattle markets of the DNCC for the first time so that buyers and sellers can transact safely. Transactions at these booths can be done round-the-clock without any charges.
Also, special bags will be distributed among the DNCC dwellers for storing and disposing of waste.
To protect the environment, adequate quantity of bleaching powder and liquid disinfectant will be sprayed in the designated places.
