India’s Minister for the North Eastern region G Kishan Reddy yesterday (September 7, 2022) sought Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s help in bolstering multi-modal connectivity between Bangladesh and the North Eastern Indian states saying this would pave the way for collaborations across sectors and mutual growth and prosperity.

He said better trade relations with the northeastern Indian region would bring about prosperity and opportunities for both countries, an official statement said last night, reports our New Delhi correspondent.

Reddy conveyed to Hasina the need for further enhancing border trade through various measures such as establishing and strengthening border haats, integrated checkpoints and land customs stations.

He presented various areas of collaboration such as energy, agriculture and tourism and requested Hasina to consider further deliberations.

While speaking at CII Business Summit in the presence of Hasina and business leaders from both countries, he said the unprecedented focus of the Narendra Modi-led government on the development of the northeastern region of India has led to a favourable investment climate.

Reddy spoke on the potential for leisure tourism, medical tourism, education and cultural exchanges that can further cement the relations between Bangladesh and the North Eastern Indian states.

He invited investors and business leaders and assured complete support from the government.
