JP is working hand-in-hand with Govt: PM

The Jatiya Party has been working hand-in-hand with the present government in taking the country forward, said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

She said: “I would like to thank Jatiya Party for working with us [government] collaboratively in the further development of our country.”

The PM made the remarks today while holding a dialogue with Jatiya Party Chairman Hussein Muhammad Ershad, aiming to reach a consensus over holding the upcoming national poll in a free, fair and credible manner.

she also expressed her firm optimism that the country was heading towards a meaningful election to continue the development spree in the coming years as she joined a dialogue with Jatiya Party-led United National Alliance (UNA).

“Exercising franchise is a democratic right of the people and they will apply it in a free, fair and impartial manner in the next elections,” she said.

Sheikh Hasina added: “Through this meaningful poll the country’s development spree will continue.”

Highlighting Bangladesh’s tremendous development over 10 years, the prime minister said Jatiya Party was beside the government’s journey towards development and “we thank for the cooperation that we received from the party”.

Mentioning that her aim is to develop the country, the Awami League president stressed the need for keeping up the development works that her government initiated.

The prime minister also recalled Bangabandhu’s outstanding contributions to Bangladesh’s development. “Bangladesh was turned into a least developed country by Bangabandhu and following his footsteps, we graduated it as a developing country,” she added.

Responding to Ershad’s call for dialogue, the prime minister invited him for the talks today.

The dialogue began around 7:30pm today at Prime Minister’s official residence Ganabhaban in the capital.

In today’s discussion with Sheikh Hasina, JP Chairman Hussein Muhammad Ershad is leading a 33-member team.

The Jatiya Party leaders in the delegation include Senior Co-Chairman and Leader of the Opposition in the House Raushon Ershad, Co-Chairman GM Quader, Secretary General Ruhul Amin Hawlader, Join Secretaries General Liyakat Hossain Khoka and Nurul Islam Omar, Presidium members Anisul Islam Mahmud, MA Sattar, Kazi Firoz Rashid, Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu, Delwar Hossain Khan, Syed Abu Hossain Babla, Sahidur Rahman, Sheikh Muhammad Sirajul Islam, Fakhrul Imam, Mujibul Haque Chunnu, Salma Islam, Sunil Shubha Roy, SM Faisal Chishty, Mahmudul Islam Chowdhury, Mahsiur Rahman Ranga, Azam Khan, Solaiman Alam Sheth, Atikur Rahman, Khaled Akter, Shafiqul Islam Sentu and Shamim Haider Patwary.

The allies in the Ershad-led coalition will be represented by Bangladesh Ismai Front Chairman MA Mannan and Secretary General MA Matin, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish Secretary General Mahfuzul Haque and Joint Secretary General Jalal Ahmed, National Islami Grand Alliance Chairman Abu Naser Wahed Faruq and BNA Chairman Sekandar Ali Moni.
