JS goes into session after 59-day recess

The parliament went into session this (October 30, 2022) afternoon after a 59-day recess.

The 20th session of the 11th parliament began with Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair at 4:30pm today.

President Abdul Hamid on October 12, convened the 20th session exercising his power bestowed upon him as per the Article 72 (1) of the Constitution.

The previous 19th session was prorogued on September 1, having five sittings.

As per the Article 72(1) of the Constitution, the period exceeding 60 days shall not intervene between the two sessions.

Before the House went into sitting, meeting of the Business Advisory Committee of the parliament was held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban to fix the duration and businesses of this session.

Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury presided over the meeting.

The 20th session of parliament will continue till November 6, having six sittings.
