One of Bollywood’s most versatile actresses, Tabu made her acting debut with the film “Bazaar” in 1982. Following this performance, she was able to catch the audience’s attention with her performance in the film “Hum Naujawan” in 1985.

Since then, Tabu has come a long way, becoming well-known for her amazing acting skill and bold personality.

Today marks the birthday of the talented artiste. In a recent interview on “Rendezvous with Simi Garewal”, Tabu opened up about her childhood and why she doesn’t use her father’s surname.

“I had a wonderful upbringing, growing up in Hyderabad with my grandparents, on my mother’s side—after my parents were divorced,” recalled Tabu.

Tabu’s parents were divorced when she was just three years of age, with her father later remarrying and having two daughters with his second wife.

Speaking about her surname, and why she never used her father’s surname (Hashmi), the actress stated, “I never used my father’s surname because I did not feel the need to. I remember nothing about him. While my sister has occasionally gone to meet him, I have never had the same desire. Rarely do I feel the need to find out more about my father. Instead, I am content with my life and how I have grown without his presence in my life.”

Tabu also candidly spoke about growing up in a household of women, who were used to taking care of themselves.

“We’ve always had strong women in our family, which inspired a lot of independence and confidence in me,” said Tabu.

The actress believes that men are intimidated by women who have strong female influences growing up.

“Independent women shatter the image of men as providers. It is something that most men cannot come to accept. While some men have become confident in their self-worth, most cannot accept such a woman,” concluded Tabu.

Tabu is currently excited about her next movie, “Drishyam 2”, which will be released on November 18. Directed by Abhishek Pathak, the film stars Ajay Devgn, Ishita Dutta, and Akshaye Khanna in the lead roles.
