‘RRR’ makes history Final nominations announced for 95th Oscars

As another year rolls around, it is yet again time for audiences all over the world to be captivated in the road to the 95th Academy Awards, better known around the world as the Oscars.

Kicking-off at 7:30 pm Bangladesh time, the event was presented by 2022 Oscar Winner Riz Ahmed and Allison Williams, actress and producer of “M3gan”.

The first nominations to be announced were for ‘Actress in a Supporting Role’. Following this came announcements for various categories like ‘Costume Design’, ‘Sound’, ‘Original Score’ and many more.

At this point, the show went for a short break, resuming with the nominations for a category this side of the world was extremely excited for, ‘Original Song’. The first nomination went to “Applause” from “Tell It Like A Woman”. Then came “Hold My Hand” from “Top Gun: Maverick”, followed closely by “Lift Me Up” from “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”.

With only two more nominations left in the category, many were left crossing their fingers in anticipation when Allison Williams read out, “Naatu Naatu” from “RRR”.

The final nomination in the ‘Original Song’ category went to “This Is a Life” from “Everything Everywhere All at Once”. However, history had already been made, as “RRR” became the first South Indian film to ever be nominated for the prestigious Oscars.

Following this, other categories like ‘Documentary Feature Film’, ‘Documentary Short Film’, ‘International Feature Film’, ‘Animated Feature Film’, ‘Makeup and Hairstyling’, ‘Production Design’, ‘Film Editing’, ‘Cinematography’ and ‘Visual Effects’ were announced.

Afterwards, it was finally time for the ‘Actor in a Leading Role’ category, with Austin Butler (“Elvis”), Colin Farrell (“The Banshees of Inisherin”), Brendan Fraser (“The Whale”), Paul Mescal (“Aftersun”) and Bill Nighy (“Living”) receiving the nominations.

Following this, was the ‘Actress in a Leading Role’ category where Cate Blanchett (“Tar”), Ana de Armas (“Blonde”), Andrea Riseborough (“To Leslie”), Michelle Williams (“The Fablemans”) and Michelle Yeoh (“Everything Everywhere All at Once”) received nominations.

Up next, came the nominations for the ‘Directing’ category, spearheaded by Martin McDonagh (“The Banshees of Inisherin”), Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert (“Everything Everywhere All at Once”), Steven Spielberg (“The Fabelmans”), Todd Field (“Tar”) and Ruben Östlund (“Triangle of Sadness”).

Finally, the night came to an end with announcements for the ‘Best Picture’ category, which included “All Quiet on The Western Front”, “Avatar: The Way of Water”, “The Banshees of Inisherin”, “Elvis”, “Everything Everywhere All at Once”, “The Fabelmans”, “Tar”, “Top Gun: Maverick”, “Triangle of Sadness” and “Women Talking”.
