Multiple locations in central London today was disrupted with protest and people’s assemblies called by the UK based global environmental group Extinction Rebellion against what they say the criminal inaction on the climate and ecological crisis.
The group say we are facing an unprecedented global emergency. Life on Earth is in crisis. Scientists agree we have entered a period of abrupt climate breakdown, and we are in the midst of a mass extinction of our own making. Human activity is causing irreparable harm to the life on this world. Many current life forms could be annihilated or at least committed to extinction by the end of this century.

The air we breathe, the water we drink, the earth we plant in, the food we eat, and the beauty and diversity of nature that nourishes our psychological well-being, all are being corrupted and compromised by the political and economic systems that promote and support our modern, consumer-focused lifestyles.

Thousands of people responded to their call and blocked well-known London landmarks including Waterloo Bridge, Marble Arch, Parliament Square, Oxford Circus and Piccadilly Circus.

At Oxford Circus thousands of protesters danced to live music at the normally busy junction. A life sized model of a boat was parked in the middle of the crossing with the slogan Tell the Truth emblazoned on the side. The organiser said the protest will continue until the government takes action.
