New Zealand have made their second successive World Cup final by beating India by 18 run in today’s game. With the defeat, India finished its World Cup journey.

Chasing a 240-run target, India managed to make 221 runs losing all wickets in 49.3 overs.

Henry and Boult were lethal with the new ball, blowing away India’s top half to leave them at 5/3 and then 24/4. At that point, a huge win seemed likely but India did fight gradually.

First through Pant-Hardik and then through a fantastic Jadeja-Dhoni partnership. The spinning all-rounder in particular played arguably his best ODI knock to get India really deep, with the experienced Dhoni at the other end.

Things got really close but Jadeja’s dismissal got NZ in front and then Guptill produced a moment for the ages, by running out MS in what could be the latter’s final ODI. That was the final nail on the coffin for India who fell short in the end.

Earlier yesterday, New Zealand won the toss and opted to bat first in the WC match interrupted by the rain.
