American television host, comedian, writer, and producer Conan O’Brien, widely recognised for his work as a late-night talk show host, has been announced as the host of the upcoming Academy Awards. This will be the Emmy-winning comedian and television host’s debut as the Oscars’ master of ceremonies.

“We are thrilled and honoured to have the incomparable Conan O’Brien host the Oscars this year,” said Academy Chief Executive Officer Bill Kramer and Academy President Janet Yang in an official statement last Friday.

“He is the perfect person to help lead our global celebration of films with his brilliant humour, love of movies, and live TV expertise. His remarkable ability to connect with audiences will bring viewers together to do what the Oscars do best — honour the spectacular films and filmmakers of this year.”

As expected, O’Brien couldn’t resist making a joke in his statement, “America demanded it, and now it’s happening: Taco Bell’s new Cheesy Chalupa Supreme,” he said. “In other news, I’m hosting the Oscars.”

O’Brien is renowned for his work as the host of late-night programs such as “Late Night with Conan O’Brien”, “The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien”, and “Conan”. He is currently the host of the podcast “Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend”.

Jimmy Kimmel, who hosted the Academy Awards in 2017, 2018, 2023, and 2024, revealed in August that he declined an offer to host the ceremony for a fifth time.

The 97th Academy Awards is scheduled for Sunday, March 2, 2025, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood and will be broadcast live on ABC.
