The announcement of AR Rahman and Saira Banu’s separation after nearly three decades of marriage has stunned fans worldwide. Their decision has sparked widespread speculation about the future of their relationship, including questions about child custody and the possibility of reconciliation.

In a recent interview on Vicky Lalwani’s YouTube channel, prominent divorce lawyer Vandana Shah shared insights into the ongoing proceedings. Addressing the custody of the couple’s three children, she explained that some of them are now adults and can choose which parent they wish to live with. “The decision will ultimately depend on the children’s preferences and legal considerations,” she added.

While the topic of alimony was raised, Shah refrained from commenting on it directly. Instead, she highlighted Saira Banu’s emphasis on privacy and independence, noting that financial concerns have never been a driving force for her.

Despite the separation announcement, Shah hinted at the possibility of a reunion between Rahman and Banu. She expressed hope for reconciliation, emphasising that the couple’s joint statement, while acknowledging the pain and challenges of their decision, left room for potential reconciliation. “Their choice to separate was thoughtful but not necessarily final,” she remarked.

Earlier this month, Rahman and Banu confirmed their decision to part ways after 29 years of marriage, citing emotional strain as a significant factor. Married in 1995, the couple shares three children: Khatija, Raheema, and Ameen.
