Jangoo debut ton ensures Windies’ 3-0 series sweep against Bangladesh
West Indies chased down Bangladesh’s 321 in the third and final ODI to win by four wickets thanks to a ton on debut from Amir Jangoo which ensured a 3-0 ODI series sweep against Bangladesh. It was the highest total ever chased at Warner Park in St. Kitts.
Gudakesh Motie hit Rishad Hossain for six to bring up the winning runs with four overs to spare. Jangoo remained unbeaten on 104 off 83 while Motie was not out on 44 off 31 during an unbroken 91-run stand off just 53 deliveries.
Bangladesh were left baffled by Windies’ resilience after early fall of wickets. Brandon King fell for a run out before Nasum Ahmed and Hasan Mahmud struck blows to remove Alick Athanze and Shai Hope cheaply.
From then on Kacey Carty was the star of the show. First he partnered Sherfane Rutherford for a 55-run stand and the next one with Jangoo was even better as Windies reached 150 for four, keeping a good scoring rate after 25 overs. With the game slipping away, Bangladesh breathed a sigh of relief when Carty fell with Soumya Sarkar taking a brilliant catch at backward point off Rishad to break the 132-run stand between Carty and Amir Jangoo off just 115 deliveries. Carty fell for 95, leaving Windies at 218 for four in the 34th over.
Rishad would then take stunning catch off his own bowling to see the back of Roston Chase for 12 in the 38th over. But increasingly confident Jangoo, together with Gudakesh Motie, picked off Hasan for 17 runs in the 42nd over with two sixes. That brought the required-rate to below 6.
Jangoo thumped Afif for six to bring up his ton in 80 deliveries and soon the duo picked off the winning runs to hand Bangladesh a 3-0 series thumping.
Earlier, sent to bat, Bangladesh were in early trouble when both Tamzid Hasan Tamim and Liton Das departed for ducks to leave Tigers reeling at 2 for 9. From there, Bangladesh produced one of their finest batting displays in recent few series. Soumya Sarkar, who had been getting starts but not making hay, along with stand-in skipper Mehedi Hasan Miraz, took charge of the innings.
Miraz took the attack to Windies early and the two batters changed gears in tandem to build a 136-run stand for the third-wicket off 129 deliveries. Soumya, finding the boundary ropes pretty easily, looked set for a big score but perished to Gudakesh Motie, trapped leg-before on run-a-ball 73.
Miraz then departed to a run-out for 77 off 73 and a mini collapse saw Bangladesh lose Afif Hossain for 15 to stutter at 171 for 5. From there on in it was the Mahmudullah Riyad and Jaker Ali show.
The duo put together a 150-run stand to help the Tigers to 321-5. Mahmudullah had a tremendous series so far and was even more aggressive this time around. He hit some tremendous shots to reach 84 not out off 63 while Jaker hit 62 off 57 to see Tigers reach 321.
Windies recover after Carty fifty
West Indies recovered from early loss of wickets and were scoring briskly despite losing Sherfane Rutherford. Kacey Carty hit fifty and put on a 64-run stand with Amir Jangoo to take Windies to 150 for 4 after 25 overs.
Carty and Rutherford had put on 55 for the fourth-wicket stand before the latter was holed out at square-leg after a 33-ball 30. It appeared to be a turning point in the game but Carty in particular has kept a cool head as Windies were scoring at six-an-over at the 25-over mark.
Nasum, Hasan strikes leave Windies rattled
Bangladesh picked left-arm spinner Nasum Ahmed in the eleven for the third ODI, dropping a paceman but the decision has paid dividends early as Nasum picked up the wicket of Alick Athanze.
Set a target of 322, Brandon King looked ominous before he fell for 15 to a run out effected by Mehedi Hasan Miraz in the second over. Athanaze, looked to take advantage of the Powerplay and his attempted sweep did not connect but Nasum’s delivery found a way to disturb the woodwork.
Hasan Mahmud then bagged the scalp of Windies skipper Shai Hope, edging an outswinger to the slips to depart for 3.
Windies were 3 for 49 in 7.4 overs before rain stopped proceedings. After a short rain break, play proceeded as Windies looked to recover. Keacy Carty and Sherfane Rutherford, both on 18, took Windies to 66 for 3 after 10 overs after the restart.
Final push from Mahmudullah, Jaker helps Tigers to highest ODI total in WI
Bangladesh batters Mahmudullah Riyad and Jaker Ali hit fifties and put together a 150-run stand to help the Tigers to 321-5 in the third and final ODI of the three-match series against the West Indies at the Warner Park in St Kitts on Thursday.
The total was Bangladesh’s highest in the West Indies in the 50-over format, surpassing their 301-6 against the hosts at the same venue in 2018.
The duo steadied the ship, upped the ante, and provided a finishing touch to the innings after Soumya Sarker (73 off 73 balls) and Mehedi Hasan Miraz (77 off 73 balls) scored half-centuries.
Mahmudullah smashed four sixes and seven fours for his unbeaten 63-ball 84, while Jaker’s 57-ball 62 featured two sixes and five fours.
Pacer Alzarri Joseph pegged the Tigers back early by removing Tanzid Tamim and Liton Das in the third over of the innings but the Soumya and Miraz fought back with a 136-run stand. The duo, however, failed to convert their innings into bigger knocks. The visitors were in discomfort and staring at another low score when they were reduced to 171-5 in the 30th over but Mahmudullah and Jaker kept their side in the game and propelled the Tigers to a position of strength.
Soumya, Miraz depart after half-centuries

Soumya, who smahsed four sixes and six fours for a run-a-ball 71, was trapped lbw by Gudakesh Motie in the 24th over, while Miraz got run out in the 30th over after scoring a 73-ball 77 laced with eight fours and two sixes.
Afif Hossain (15 off 29 balls) was the next to depart as he fell to a bouncer bowled by part-time option Sherfane Rutherford in the 31st over.
Tigers regroup after early losses
