Stop spraying ineffective insecticide

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has asked the authorities concerned not to spray ineffective mosquito medicines any more.

Addressing the officials concerned, he said: “Effective insecticide will arrive in Dhaka within a few days and during this period, stop spraying ineffective medicine to show off.”

The minister made the call while attending a cleanliness drive in capital’s Mirpur Mazar road area today.

Dengue situation remains grim as the country struggles to control the largest outbreak of the mosquito-borne disease. This outbreak has claimed at least 23 lives, according to government data. But unofficial estimates suggest the death toll is higher.

More than 30,000 people have been infected with dengue virus since January 1 – and deaths created panic among the people, particularly the residents of Dhaka which is at the centre of the outbreak
