The Awami League, as a political party, will have to face legal consequen-ces for its activities, said Information Adviser Nahid Islam yesterday.

“We have stated that the Awami League and the Chhatra League will no longer be able to engage in politics in Bangladesh under this ideology and name. This is our commitment to the martyrs [of the July uprising],” he said.

Nahid was addressing an event titled “Heroes of Dhaka University”, organised by the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement at the Teacher-Student Centre of Dhaka University.

Nahid said, “The fight is not over yet. Fascist collaborators from various places are attempting to make threats. We want to remind you not to forget the July spirit. The essence of July is not over. If even the slightest attempt is made to show aggression, we will resist you with double the strength. We will move Bangladesh forward, carrying the spirit of July.”

Nahid, a student of Dhaka University, emphasised that every wall and every place in the university carries its history.

Talking about the role of Dhaka University teachers, Nahid, who has been serving as a spokesperson for the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, said, “For the past 15 years, a section of the teachers has been busy proving themselves as collaborators of fascism.

On the other hand, some teachers stood with us, showing their spine,” he said, adding that they would move forward but would not forget the events of the past.
