Gill’s glorious 90 powers Gujarat to 39-run win over Kolkata
Gujarat Titans’ skipper Shubman Gill struck a sublime 90 off 48 balls to help his team achieve a 39-run victory over Kolkata Knight Riders in an Indian Premier League fixture at Eden Gardens on Monday.
Gill anchored the innings with fluency, sharing a 114-run stand with Sai Sudharsan (52), while England’s Jos Buttler hit an unbeaten 41 off 23 balls, as the away side posted a commanding 198 for three in 20 overs.
In reply, Kolkata’s chase faltered early, with wickets tumbling at regular intervals despite Ajinkya Rahane’s steady 50.
Afghan superstar Rashid Khan and season’s leading bowler Prasidh Krishna shared four wickets between them to derail the hosts’ pursuit.
Angkrish Raghuvanshi’s unbeaten 27 offered late resistance, but Kolkata closed on 159 for eight, well short of the target.
Kolkata, who won their third title of the popular T20 tournament last year, slipped to their fifth defeat in eight matches.
