A court in Chattogram sentenced BNP Vice-Chairman Giasuddin Quader Chowdhury to three years imprisonment in a case that involves ‘assassination threats’ against Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Shahidullah Kaisar of Chittagong announced the verdict on Wednesday.

The court also fined Giasuddin Tk 5 thousand.

In 2018, at a discussion on the death anniversary of Ziaur Rahman, Giasuddin said the fate of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will turn out to be worse than that of her father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, who was assassinated in 1975.

Later, BCL upazila Chairman Jamal Uddin filed a case with Fatikchhari Police Station. Local BNP leader Sarwar Alamgir and 50-60 others were also accused in the case.
Giasuddin is the brother of Salahuddin Quader Chowdhury, who was executed for crimes against humanity in 2015.
