Nation to celebrate textbook festival today

Primary and secondary students are awaiting new textbooks in the first morning of the New Year 2020 as the ‘National Textbook Festival’ is set to be celebrated across the country today.

As many as 35, 31, 44,554 free textbooks will be distributed among 4, 26, 19,865 primary and secondary levels students on Wednesday through textbook festivals across the country for the academic year 2020.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina formally inaugurated the free textbook distribution programme by handing over books of primary and secondary levels to students at a function at her official Ganabhaban residence on Tuesday.

Earlier, Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni handed over a set of textbooks for the JSC and Junior Dakhil Certificate (JDC) to the premier while State Minister for Primary and Primary and Mass Education Md Zakir Hossen handed over another set of textbooks of Primary Education Completion (PEC) and Ebtedayee.

A total of 105,402,375 textbooks will be distributed among the pre-primary and primary level students while 247,742,179 textbooks will be distributed among the secondary level students at free of cost.

The government has printed these textbooks by maintaining proper standard for pre-primary, primary, secondary, ebtedayee and SSC level students and all students will get textbooks for free on the first day of the New Year, education ministry sources said.

Distribution of free textbook started since 2010 at both primary and secondary levels in the country.
